Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED hands-on: There’s real potential here https://ift.tt/6sWPCQ3

Folding-screen laptops were not something I thought I could be excited for, but after seeing Asus’ new Zenbook 17 Fold OLED at IFA, I am beginning to change my mind. Somewhat implausibly, Asus made a functional, practical even, 17-inch tablet that folds in half and becomes a portable 12-inch laptop. It’s eye-wateringly expensive, but after four generations of pricey Galaxy Folds, would you expect anything else?

The incredible shape-shifting Zenbook

The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is a decent piece of kit as a laptop, but its huge folding screen sets it apart from almost everything else out there. The sole exception is the Lenovo X1 Fold, first announced in 2019, which features a similar, if smaller form factor.

  • Chip tech company Arm has filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm and Nuvia.
  • Arm asserts that the two companies violated license agreements and committed trademark infringement.
  • In its suit, Arm is seeking the destruction of certain Nuvia designs, an injunction against trademark infringement, and compensation.

SoftBank’s British semiconductor and software design company, Arm, has thrown down the legal hammer accusing Qualcomm and Nuvia of breaching license agreements and committing trademark infringement.

In a blog posted on the company’s website, Arm states that it has filed a lawsuit to the US District Court for the District of Delaware. The lawsuit is against Qualcomm and two of its subsidiaries, as well as Nuvia — a semiconductor and processor developer. Arm’s lawsuit actually stems from Qualcomm’s recent acquisition of Nuvia which happened back in 2021.

Curved or flat gaming monitor? LG’s new TV lets you decide on the fly. https://ift.tt/nMdBLgk

  • Today LG announced its new 42-inch LG OLED Flex TV.
  • The LG OLED Flex is the company’s first bendable OLED TV screen.
  • The display can switch from being completely flat to curved (900R).

Curved displays work great as gaming monitors because you’re usually sitting up close, allowing the screen to wrap around you, which creates a more immersive experience. However, they don’t work quite as well as just normal TVs when you’re usually sitting farther back. Normally, you’ll want a flat screen if you’re going to watch a show or movie. Aiming to give buyers a great gaming and TV viewing experience, LG has created a TV that wants to give you the best of both worlds with its newly announced LG OLED Flex (model LX3).

Get free unlimited T-Mobile coverage for three months with the power of eSIM https://ift.tt/ZoALiMe

  • A new feature called Network Pass gets new customers unlimited free T-Mobile service for three months.
  • This used to be known as Test Drive, which limited you to 30 days or 30GB of data, whichever came first.
  • Network Pass is available to any unlocked Android or iOS phone that supports eSIM.

One of the magical promises of eSIM technology is the ability to switch to a new carrier without needing to go to a store or even wait for a physical SIM to arrive in the mail. Instead, you just use the electronic SIM card installed in your phone and switch around from carrier to carrier at will.

T-Mobile is now letting us experience some of that reality. The company is rolling out a new feature called Network Pass that, unbelievably, gives you free T-Mobile service for three months. That’s unlimited service, too, with no data caps outside of the usual 50GB throttling limit.

  • Within the next 12 months, Oppo will stop including chargers with some of its devices.
  • The company currently plans to drop the charger from several of its products.
  • Oppo’s plan could be implemented for specific markets.

Despite the growing trend of not including chargers with new phones, Oppo was one of the few smartphone manufacturers that continued to keep them in the box. Now, it looks like the company will be joining the rest of the industry, at least partially.

According to Android Police, Oppo’s Vice President of Overseas Sales and Services, Billy Zhang, revealed in a group interview that the company will be cutting the charger from the box for some of its products. “We will take the charger out of the box in the next year for several products. We have a plan,” Zhang said during the interview.

You can also check out our picks for the best new Android games released in all of 2021.

An honorable mention for this month is Ni No Kuni: Cross World (Google Play). The gameplay is reasonably decent. However, some unfortunate decisions with in-game crypto caused bot spam to the point where legit players are stuck in queues instead of playing. Keep an eye on it, but wait until things get sorted out.

7 shows like Manifest to watch before the fourth season drops on Netflix Nov. 4 https://ift.tt/Qzfi9mT

manifest season 4
Credit: Universal

Today, August 28, is also known to many folks worldwide as “Manifest Day.” That’s because the cult hit TV show centers on the time-displaced passengers of Montego Air Flight 828 (8/28). Last year, it was looking bad for the show’s prospects, as NBC decided to cancel the series after just three seasons. However, the show began to surge in interest when earlier seasons dropped on Netflix. That caused Universal and Netflix to enter talks. On August 28, 2021, it was announced that Netflix would be the exclusive home for Manifest’s fourth and final season, which would be released as two parts of 10 episodes each.

Today, Netflix announced that the first part of Manifest season 4 would drop on November 4. If you are a fan of the show, we have several series you should check out that could make that wait a bit easier. Here are seven shows like Manifest to tie you over. If you haven’t watched the show, you can check out all three previous seasons on Netflix.

Amazon Prime Video plans to drop the first two episodes of the eight-part series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power late at night on September 1st. This series, based on the Middle Earth literary saga written by J.R.R. Tolkien, is set thousands of years before the events Tolkien wrote about in his novel The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings book trilogy. It is also reportedly the most expensive TV show ever produced with a total budget of nearly $500 million for its first season. But you might be asking yourself where to watch the earlier Lord of the Rings films?

In case you have never read the books, or even if you are familiar with the Middle Earth setting, it might be a good time to catch up with the saga. Thankfully, the three Lord of the Rings live-action films, and the three film trilogy that adapted The Hobbit, are both available to stream from not one but two streaming services as of this writing. Here’s a look at where you can catch up on the previous Middle Earth live-action films, and also when you can expect to watch the eight-episode series The Rings of Power.

Of course, that’s only on paper. In the real world, using Android Auto wirelessly can be such a hassle that you might want to jump back to using it wired — or even drop it altogether.

5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week – Android Apps Weekly https://ift.tt/NpX3h7T

Welcome to the 447th edition of Android Apps Weekly. Here are the big headlines from the last week:

  • Google may make pairing Wear OS watches with new phones less of a hassle. An APK teardown revealed a potential new feature where you can back up your watch before you pair it with a new phone. Wear OS watches need reset before they can be paired with a new phone, so this is pretty good news. Read the link to learn more.
  • Valve released a new app beta this week. It completely revamps the Steam mobile app. The beta version overhauls the UI, and Valve says it overhauls the framework as well. There are smarter notifications, a new Steam authenticator, support for multiple accounts, improved views of various screens, and more. It’s about time since the Steam app was fairly mediocre for a very long time.
  • Google Play Games is coming to Windows soon, and the beta is available in some places this week. Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Australia can get in on the action now. That’s good news because it means we’re getting closer to a full Android gaming experience on PC. Plus, Google lowered the minimum requirements for use on PC as well. Hit the link to learn more.
  • Plex was one of two large names that had a data breach this week. Unfortunately, usernames, encrypted passwords, and emails were stolen. Plex is forcing everyone to change their passwords as part of the cleanup process to contain the breach. Additionally, Plex heavily recommends that you enable 2FA just in case something happens.
  • Lastpass was the other big company with a data breach this week. Luckily, this one wasn’t so bad. The hackers stole source code and technical information but were unable to retrieve passwords or usernames. Lastpass acknowledged the data breach, and you can read about it at the link. Fortunately, this one wasn’t harmful to the end user at all.
