10 best two-factor authentication apps on mobile https://ift.tt/5raOI9e

Two-factor authentication apps are popular and powerful tools. They let you log into your account with a second line of authentication. Thus, you can keep your accounts secure even if your password is compromised. It’s not an end-all-be-all solution to account security, but it’s so much better than just a password that we happily recommend two-factor authentication to literally everyone.

There are a few decent apps to help out with this. Most of them should follow the standard protocols as well. Here are the best two-factor authentication apps on mobile. We’d also like to give an honorable mention to Duo (Google Play). It’s the hot new protocol service in town, but the app leaves a lot to be desired.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series: Everything we know so far (Updated: Nov 28) https://ift.tt/5raOI9e

Update: November 28, 2022 (2:43 AM ET): We have updated the Samsung Galaxy S23 hub with a few details gleaned from an FCC listing. We’ve also added info regarding rumored satellite connectivity functionality.

Original article: Samsung continues to be the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer. A huge reason for its astonishing success is the popularity of its Galaxy S line. Over the years, the Galaxy S line has become synonymous with Android, being some of the most well-known and most revered devices in the market. In 2023, we expect that to continue with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.

What could Samsung have in store for the Galaxy S23 line? There are a lot of unknown details as of right now, but we can make plenty of assumptions based on what Samsung has done in the past. Meanwhile, we also can make a wishlist of features we hope Samsung brings around for the Galaxy S23 phones. Continue on for what we know and what we hope to see!

Smartphone zoom has made significant strides since the iPhone 7 series debuted a 2x telephoto camera back in 2016. In fact, a 2x telephoto shooter seems rather quaint by modern standards when we have 3x, 5x, and even 10x cameras in our pockets today.

However, there’s still one significant issue with smartphone zoom today, and that’s the lack of consistent quality when zooming in through intermittent levels. The answer? Dual telephoto cameras.

I am a traditional cyclist who just got an e-bike, and here’s what I think https://ift.tt/OIJyHKo

E-bikes have come a long way. Over the past 30 years, the use of electric bikes has surged overseas, especially in China, where hundreds of millions of e-bikes are used daily. Here in the United States, though, the rise of e-bikes has been relatively slow. In 2021, the United States only saw fewer than 500,000 e-bikes sold, for example. As such, millions of Americans right now could be looking to buy an e-bike for the first time. I counted myself among them.

As a guy who’s used a bicycle as his primary mode of transportation for the better part of the last decade, I’ve always been interested in e-bikes — but also kind of scoffed at them. Honestly, using one seemed like “cheating” to me. Why would you need some electric motor to help you get around? Use your legs; that’s what they’re there for!

That was a fine stance when I lived on the relatively flat East Coast shoreline. However, I recently moved to the Bay Area in California. This notoriously hilly spot in the US seems daunting for traditional cycling. Sure, I could pedal my way to the grocery store, but by the time I got there, how much of me would be left that I hadn’t sweated out under the hot California sun?

Microsoft makes the best laptop under $1,000 and I can’t recommend it enough https://ift.tt/L4FyqcD

Opinion post by
Calvin Wankhede

If you’re shopping for a Windows laptop, Microsoft is probably the last brand that comes to mind. And yet, the company unveiled its fifth-generation Surface Laptop just last month. I won’t blame you if this is the first time you’re hearing about it, though. It’s neither as exciting as the Macbook Air M2 nor as controversial as Dell’s decision to omit the headphone jack on the XPS 13 Plus. In fact, it looks nearly identical to the first Surface Laptop from 2017. So why do I think Microsoft still makes the best Windows laptop? Let me explain.

Most people — including me at one point — base their laptop purchasing decision on a handful of factors: CPU performance, RAM capacity, and perhaps battery life. Microsoft’s internal hardware seems middling in those aspects, but the overall experience is better than the sum of its parts. And from that perspective, it’s hard to find any laptop as good as the Surface Laptop in the sub-$1,000 price segment.

As a journalist writing about some of the best Android smartphones, I usually have one or a dozen phones at any given point. Some have personal accounts logged in, others have work accounts, while yet others might be used for very specific use cases. Sounds fun? Not quite.

Making sure you don’t miss out on notifications or text messages is a problem you have to deal with daily if you’re toting multiple Android phones like me. I’ve been using Pushbullet to manage that chore. However, the notification mirroring service goes far beyond plain and simple, well, notification mirroring. I’ve got it plugged into servers, I use it for file sharing, and much more. There have been several Pushbullet alternatives and competitors over the years, but ten years later, here’s why the OG is still my go-to.

The Pixel Watch is proof that Wear OS isn’t bad, it just needs a lot of work https://ift.tt/qjHm7Pr

Opinion post by
Rita El Khoury

For a long time, the general consensus among Wear OS watch users was that the platform wasn’t all that good. Stutters, slowness, weird bugs, frequent disconnects from the phone, and the absence of a properly-integrated fitness and health service were among the chief reasons for that thinking. Not to mention Google’s on-again-off-again relationship with the platform, with updates one day and neglect the next.

Then the Google-Samsung partnership and the Galaxy Watch 4 happened, signaling Google’s long-term commitment to Wear OS on an abstract level and the platform’s not-so-suckiness on a concrete level. It was one of the first examples that watches running Google’s software could actually be smooth, responsive, and competitive against the best of the best smartwatches.
