Starting with those all-important core details, the Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus all pack a Kirin 990 chipset. Unfortunately, those expecting mmWave support will be disappointed, but sub-6Ghz 5G is indeed here. The P40 and P40 Pro offer 8GB of RAM as standard, while the P40 Pro Plus ups the ante with 12GB of RAM.

In terms of storage, the standard P40 tops out at 128GB and the P40 Pro offers 128GB or 256GB of storage. The Pro Plus takes things even further by offering 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options. All of the phones offer expandable storage via new generation Nano Memory cards.

The P40 differs from its stablemates when it comes to battery details too, packing a 3,800mAh battery with 22.5W wired charging — no wireless charging here. Meanwhile, the P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus offer 40W wired charging and 40W wireless charging. Yep, the Huawei devices wrests the wireless charging crown away from the Xiaomi Mi 10 series, which offers 30W inductive charging.

What about the cameras?

The Huawei P40 Pro offers plenty of impressive specs.

Switching to the camera side of things, all three models offer a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with OIS. This sensor packs an RYYB color filter for better low-light performance, and is capable of taking pixel-binned 12.5MP shots. All three phones also offer a 32MP selfie snapper, although the P40 Pro and Pro Plus also offer autofocus and IR face unlock on the front.

In addition to the 50MP main camera, the standard P40 packs a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP 3x telephoto snapper. Meanwhile, the P40 Pro ups the ante with a 3D ToF camera, the Mate 30 Pro‘s 40MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 12MP 5X periscope sensor with an RYYB filter for better low light capabilities.

The P40 Pro Plus goes even further by delivering an 8MP 3x telephoto camera, an 8MP 10x periscope shooter (RYYB filter), a 40MP ultra-wide camera, and a 3D ToF sensor. Yep, much like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 and Mi 10 Pro 5G, you’ve got a short-range zoom camera and a long-range sensor.

Huawei also brings a 90Hz refresh rate to the P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus screens, giving you a smoother experience. Unfortunately, the standard P40 misses out on the high refresh rate fun.
