The November 2019 security patches for the various Google Pixel devices just landed (and the Essential Phone is likely not far behind). However, the Google Pixel updates do not include updates for the original Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s likely this is the end of security patches for those devices.
If the October 2019 update is the final patch for the original Pixel devices, that makes them only the second and third Pixel devices to stop getting regular updates, the first of which being the Google Pixel C tablet. That device stopped receiving Google Pixel updates back in June.
Technically, the original Pixel and Pixel XL should have stopped receiving security updates last month, considering that was when their three-year update lifespan ended. However, Google still pushed out an October patch to both phones.
You can download the factory images and OTA files at the links below. You can then either flash a fresh build or sideload the OTA file. If you’d rather take the normal route, go to Settings > System > Advanced > System update and wait for the OTA notification to arrive.
