Google Assistant third-party Notes & Lists integration is coming to an end https://ift.tt/UNGzy4l

  • Google plans to end third-party integration with Google Assistant.
  • Users will no longer be able to use Google Assistant to create notes or lists on non-Google apps.
  • Integration support will end on June 20.

Google Assistant is an easy way to create notes and lists quickly. Some people keep their notes/lists in Google Keep while others choose to use a third-party service. Unfortunately, that’s no longer going to be possible soon if you use a third-party app.

Today, AnyList — an app that lets you create and share shopping lists — announced that Google Assistant integration is coming to an end. But it’s not just AnyList; Google is ending Google Assistant Notes & Lists integration for all non-Google apps.

Google didn’t tease the Pixel 8 at I/O, why? https://ift.tt/XJiEFtv

Google I/O concluded a few weeks ago, and the company had plenty to show off at the developer conference. There was the $500 Pixel 7a, the Pixel Fold, and the Pixel Tablet, but no mention of the highly anticipated Pixel 8 line.

That’s in stark contrast to last year, when Google teased the Pixel 7 series at I/O 2022. No such teaser for its next-gen flagship this time has us wondering why this was the case, and we have a few potential reasons.

But if you click on their individual pages, you’ll notice there’s an update. That update reveals that these Celebrity Personalities are no longer available for purchase. Not only are these voices no longer available for purchase, but Amazon also appears to be ending support.

A close look at the Arm Immortalis-G720 and its 5th Gen graphics https://ift.tt/aEGjeJQ

In addition to Arm’s 2023 CPU cores, we’re taking a deep dive into what Arm has built into its recently announced 5th Gen mobile graphics architecture that will inevitably power future high-end mobile games. Before getting into the fine details, Arm’s 2023 GPU architecture comes in three product varieties — the Immortalis-G720, Mali-G720, and Mali-G620.

Like last year’s Immortalis-G715, Immortalis-G720 is the flagship product designed with ray tracing capabilities in hand. The Mali-G720 and G620 sport the same architectural capabilities, just with fewer cores and no mandatory ray tracing for more affordable product lines. As in previous Arm GPUs, the graphics core count remains key to scaling performance. So expect to see the Immortalis-G720 in flagship chipsets, the Mali-G720 in the upper-mid-range, and the G620 in more budget-oriented products. The table below highlights the key differences.

  • A MediaTek Dimensity 9300 leak points to a radically different CPU.
  • The chipset will apparently feature four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores.
  • The processor will apparently consume 50% less power than its predecessor.

MediaTek confirmed yesterday that its next-generation flagship phone processor (presumably called the Dimensity 9300) would use Arm’s brand-new Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 CPU cores along with the Immortalis Mali-G720 GPU. The company didn’t mention the new Cortex-A520 little CPU core, and it turns out there might be a good reason for that.

Long-time leaker Digital Chat Station has claimed on Weibo that the Dimensity 9300 won’t use little CPU cores at all. Instead, the tipster asserts that the chipset will have an octacore CPU consisting of four Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores.

Apple iPhone 15: Everything we know so far https://ift.tt/1aei9Oj

Update, May 26, 2023 (4.32 PM ET): This hub has been updated to include a leak that suggests the entire iPhone 15 series could have a frosted glass back panel.

Original article: We’ve become so accustomed to Apple’s iterative smartphone launches each year that the iPhone 14 event represented one of the most exciting in recent memory. Sure, the base model was practically identical to its predecessor, but Apple gave us a Plus instead of a Mini, and the Pro devices introduced a brand-new punch hole display.

The instantly memeable Dynamic Island (Apple’s fancy name for the screen cutout and its corresponding software enhancements) is the biggest shakeup to the iPhone design in years. In many ways, it made up for a lack of innovation elsewhere in Apple’s flagship phone lineup, with plenty of consumers deciding there was no need to upgrade just yet. Will 2023’s iPhone 15 series offer more than just superficial improvements and convince more people to make the jump? Let’s find out.

The race to be the fastest charging phone in the US finally has a new challenger https://ift.tt/hg0uwC9

Opinion post by
Ryan Haines

For as all-encompassing as the competition between flagship smartphones has become, there’s one area that Samsung, Apple, and others seem content to ignore — charging. In the states, SuperVOOC technology (used by OPPO, OnePlus, Realme, and other BBK-affiliated brands) has often been the only contender if you wanted truly fast wireless charging. But even then, only a handful of compatible phones were available to officially buy in the US, and you had to contend with some strange decisions like the use of a USB-A charger, limited support for charging standards for non-VOOC devices, and a lack of wireless charging options. Now, there’s a new (but very familiar) challenger on the scene — none other than Motorola with its TurboPower charging, and all I can say is it’s about time.

An unexpected challenger

Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference is right around the corner, and so is one of the most significant launches the company has made in years — a mixed reality (MR) headset. It’s an entirely new product category for Apple, which finds itself in completely unchartered territory. When stuffing smartphones into VR headsets was all the rage back in 2016, Apple was more focused on augmented reality (AR) with its ARKit applications. But a secret project was brewing at Cupertino, the culmination of which is what we’re about to witness.

PSA: To avoid malware, check for this before buying an Android TV https://ift.tt/kHgzthM

Credit: David Imel / Android Authority
  • After reports of malware on Android TV devices emerged, Google has released guidance for consumers to help them make an informed decision.
  • Potential buyers should check if the manufacturer is listed on the Android TV homepage as a partner.
  • You should also check for the Google Play Protect status of the Android TV box.

Recently, researchers found that some top-rated Android TV boxes that were highly popular on Amazon were preloaded with malware. These Android TV boxes were from uncertified brands that had gotten popular because of their low price, but in the background, they would commit ad-click fraud to generate illicit revenue. In response to this, Google has released guidance for consumers so that they do not end up purchasing such products.

Just because a set-top box or TV dongle comes with Android TV doesn’t mean that it is certified to run Android TV. Google has strict security and privacy policies for Android TV, and products that are certified to run Android TV undergo extensive testing for quality and user safety. Only after they pass these tests are they given the Android TV certification and added to the official partner page.

The Android 14 beta is the buggiest beta I’ve ever installed on my Pixels https://ift.tt/hQboC6u

Opinion post by
Rita El Khoury

Ever since I flashed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on my HTC Desire Z, I’ve been curious about trying the latest and — supposedly — greatest version of Android as soon as possible. When Google started publicly testing official Android developer previews and betas, I quickly signed up and it’s become a yearly tradition for me. New developer preview? On my secondary phone! Out of developer preview and into beta? On my main phone! That’s how I ended up with the Android 14 beta on my Pixel 7 Pro and all the bugs made me regret it ever since.

Before I carry on, I know we’re talking about a beta and beta software is bug-ridden by definition — testing is crucial to get to the stable release. I also know that bugs are hit-and-miss. I don’t recall seeing any notable issue with any previous beta I’ve flashed on my Pixel phones in the last five years at least. That’s extremely lucky, but betas are supposed to be significantly more stable than early developer previews. I guess all of my karma ran out, though, and I got saddled with a multitude of annoyances and bugs from day one with the Android 14 beta.
